We’re innovating in the fast-paced world of live auctions, featuring categories such as fashion, beauty, electronics, and collectibles like trading cards, comic books, and even live plants. Whatnot has something for everyone, and we’re growing rapidly as one of the fastest growing marketplaces.


The Notifications Platform team at Whatnot is responsible for delivering all notifications sent to users. Our platform enables teams to send relevant messages to both buyers and sellers, driving an overall communications experience focused on quality, utility, and business impact. As an L5 engineer on this team, you will:

  • Architect, build, and scale core platform components of notifications delivery, audience targeting, and improve developer experience and platform observability.
  • Collaborate with PM and other ICs on the team to lead platform projects.
  • Mentor and uplevel other junior engineers on the team.

Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of our San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, or New York hubs.

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience building platforms and large-scale systems.
  • A reputation for high-quality engineering designs.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to operate independently.

Compensation: $185,000 - $205,000/year + benefits + equity. The salary range may be inclusive of several levels that would be applicable to the position. Final salary will be based on a number of factors, including level, relevant prior experience, skills, and expertise.</
